Is Asheville a film friendly town? Having lived in Wilmington when Matlock and Dawson's Creek were filmed there, I know about that place. I was even an extra during a Matlock episode, which was neat.

Frozen River -- smuggling on the St. Lawrence

I'm listening to actress Melissa Leo and director/screenwriter Courtney Hunt talk about the film Frozen River on The Bob Edwards Show. The film is about two women that smuggle illegal immigrants across the St. Lawrence River from Canada to upstate New York.
It's good to see a light shine on this issue at the northern border. When I think of illegal immigration, like most, I usually think of the southern border.
It's always good to learn.
I actually used to live in upstate New York for a brief period, close enough to Canada that I could pick up a CBC station over the air on my television. It's a very rural and beautiful area.
However, I never thought much about any immigrant smuggling going on at the Canadian border.
